As we go on this journey of leaning into the voice of God, there are five primary conditions to hearing God's voice: humility, faith, a clean heart, a yielded will, and a willingness to wait. (Joy Dawson, Forever Ruined for the Ordinary, 17-22)
Humility paves the way, faith makes it possible, a clean heart opens the door, a yielded will says yes to obedience, and waiting says "in your timing, God.”

Walk in Humility
If we desire to walk in greater intimacy with the Lord and walk in all that He has for us, the number one thing that we must cultivate in our lives is an attitude of humility. Humility is the landing strip for the voice of God, the understanding that we are completely dependant upon him. Those who do not walk humbly will not take the time to inquire of God. We see this in the life of King Saul.
1 Chronicles 10:13-14: “So Saul died for his breach of faith. He broke faith with the Lord in that he did not keep the command of the Lord, and also consulted a medium, seeking guidance. He did not seek guidance from the Lord. Therefore the Lord put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse.”
Saul’s lack of humility cost him his life. If we are going to hear from God, we have no other option but to walk in humility. The psalmist is confident that it is the humble who are led by God.
Psalm 25:9: "He leads the humble in what is right and teaches the humble his way."
Humility says, "I will wait on you." Pride says, "I can do it on my own." Jesus walked in immense humility and dependence upon the Father, and if we want to see a move of God we must walk with the same posture. The heart attitude of humility says, "Lord, we depend upon you for our very breath. Whether we need something small or large, we run to God first.” James writes in his letter that God is for the humble he desire to speak to those who will come running to him, but he is against the proud (James 4:6).
As you press in to the heart of God for yourself, your family and friends, your community and nation, remember it is in the place of humility that God releases his word.
