Redemptive Conversations

“He went on his way through towns and villages, teaching and journeying toward Jerusalem.”

Redemptive Conversations

When we read Luke 13:22 (ESV), we see that Jesus was intentional about His mission, proclaiming the message of the Kingdom of God. He was intentional about the people around Him and His conversations with them. Most importantly, Jesus was on a journey to fulfill the mission of God the Father, who sent Him to become the propitiation for the sins of the whole World, so that all who call upon His name and believe in Him will be saved.

This fulfillment of Jesus’ obedience on the cross sets forth an open invitation for all people in the World to be saved, saved from the consequences of sin and from eternal death. Jesus’ mission was both geographically and theologically Redemptive. In simple words, Jesus’ movement from one place to another was filled with messages of hope for those who would listen. His journey was one of Redemptive Conversations, carried out with obedience and perseverance in the face of challenges, always moving toward the fulfillment of His Father’s purpose, laying down His life on the cross to redeem humanity.

After His obedience in crucifixion came the resurrection, the ascension, the coming of the Spirit, and the ongoing invitation to each one of us, those marked by Christ, to engage in the same work: driven by God’s purpose and always ready for redemptive mission, sharing the truth of the gospel. From one place to another, whether in the marketplace, at a rodeo, in recreational centers, in the workplace, or wherever the Lord’s Spirit leads, our journey in Christ matters. We are all part of a grand film cast. We have been called by the Kingdom of God to be actors in His redemptive mission. Sometimes God will ask us to move, and moving isn’t always fun. Sometimes our ships can get wrecked. Storms can hit us and prevent us from moving from one place to another. But on the other side of the storm, there is a Redemptive Mission. And just because of our perseverance, people can be saved, healed, and taught about the Kingdom of God.

Our role is Simple Yet Profound: Redemptive Mission - Primarily Through Redemptive Conversations!

Contemporary Struggle

In our global context today, we face a great struggle, something not new but present from ages past: gossip and slander. These are deadly and destructive sins. Who hasn’t faced them? They infect our relationships and disguise themselves as harmless conversation.

Ephesians 4:29 (ESV) says, “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.” Convicting us to pause and resolve: I will not be known as a person of gossip or slander. Instead, our speech would be seasoned to build others. Knowing that in Christ, we are redeemed and we carry a redemptive purpose and conversations are a huge part of that purpose.

We are ambassadors of Christ, representing His Kingdom. Holiness is our motto; we are actors in His righteous Kingdom. We are called to be Redemptive in our words, passing on Redemption and hope, not gossip and slander. So let our speech be gracious, seasoned with salt.

Colossians 4:6 (ESV) “Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.”

Reflection & Prayer: Lord, help us to be people whose words bring life. Give us the courage to stop harmful conversations, the wisdom to speak truth with grace, and the humility to protect the good name of others. Make our speech a reflection of Your kingdom.
